Olympian gymnast, Laurie Hernandez, spoke her truth and revealed the cruel ways coach Maggie Haney used to treat her and other gymnasts. Laurie, who competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics at only 16 years old, being a gold and silver medallist was put off competing in Gymnastics due to the abuse she used to suffer at the hands of USA coach, Maggie Haney.
“I had many experiences that led to multiple panic attacks where I'd just stand in front of the equipment and cry...hard. There would be mornings that I'd cry as soon as I wake up, worried about the yelling and anger that would happen ”
Sources state that Laurie suffered a decade of abuse from Maggie who fat shamed her and forced her to train injured which led to her suffering from panic attacks. USA Gymnastics have only just suspended Maggie Haney for 8 years, 4 years after Laurie filed her complaint. Laurie took a break from gymnastics due to her thinking it was the sport she hated when actually it was the coaching.
