Thoughts and aspirations for 2nd year studying Sports Journalism

I can’t believe how quickly my first year of university went. Probably because it got cut short due to Covid-19 but time does go very quickly and has made me realise how much I want to achieve in these three years that I have in Birmingham City University.

Second year, I want to do things bigger and better! I want to improve on my writing and the consistency of my writing. I prefer to broadcast/present but good journalists can do both. I was really looking forward to the Sky work placement that I got accepted for, to start in September 2020; unfortunately, it got postponed until January 2021 due to the virus, so fingers crossed it takes place then!

I’m feeling more stressed about second year. The work is slightly harder and there’s more pressure but I love a challenge and have improved greatly from when I first started as well as the feedback I received from first year, I was very pleased with.

I hope this year I learn more about different types of journalism in depth and also explore topics, and sports I wouldn’t normally write about or be up to date with, for example, Snooker and Swimming.

The grades I got for my assignments last year were good but aiming for higher next year. The first semester I got one 2:2, and two 2:1 s. And the last semester I got three 1st s, which I was pleased about and want to keep it up. This year I am aiming for 1st s in all my assignments.
